AnS - Arashi's goals for 2010

Ahh, even though work is piling up, this week's AnS was so cute that I couldn't resist translating a part of it!

Ohno’s one made me laugh out loud at my computer screen. The unaired scenes didn’t interest me as much so I’m not gonna talk about those. Thanks to jamerei for uploading so quickly for everyone's enjoyment.

 

 

The show starts off with Sho explaining the itinerary for today’s program, to which Jun posed a question.

 

Jun: Why are we holding an Unaired Scenes Special at a New Year program where we should be celebrating?

Sho: Well, it’s a reflection of sorts.

Ogura: Isn’t it full of scenes from Aiba-land?

Jun: Hasn’t there been virtually no Aiba-land recently?

Aiba: You know, I’ve come to notice that too. And though we’ve been doing quite a bit of Aiba Sugoroku too, it came to a screeching halt.

Nino: Nonetheless, Aiba Sugoroku seems to have become popular in America.

Ogura: They do it in the US now.

Jun: Yeah we saw it on Tokudane.

Ogura: I’ve even been called Ogu-san [in the US]!

 

Sho: Well, we’d like to hear everyone’s goals for 2010, so, in accordance to what we usually do, let’s set our targets for our big goals and small goals.

Nino: Argh, we’ve been doing it every year and I have no more goals left to set!

Ogura: And we’d also like for Sho-kun to draw the zodiac for 2010.

Sho: You mean a tiger? Got it.

 

Narrator: Alright, let’s present our big and small goals for 2010!

Jun: Are you going first, Aiba-kun?

Aiba: Here goes Aiba-kun! My goals for 2010 are… Well first, I’ll start from the big one. I hope that an overseas celebrity comes onto the show. Someone like a sportsman, like Matsui-san, or Ichiro-san…

Jun: The staff are giving us faces that tell us this isn’t very plausible…

Ogura: You mean someone who comes to Japan often?

Ohno: Angelina Jolie?

Ogura: If it were for a movie promotion Tom Cruise might come to the program without charging exorbitantly.

Aiba: REALLY?

Nino: What would Tom Cruise do on our show?

Sho: Stuff like dilatancy? [Sho is referring to the icky cornstarch solution which they run on.]

Jun: And gesture games… (laughs)

Aiba: Alright, and my small goal is this… to lose my split ends.

Ogura: You have that many split ends?

Aiba: You know, the make-up artist told me today that the number of split ends which I had was amazing. I’ll learn to take care of that.

 

Sho: Moving on to Matsumoto-kun…

Jun: First up, my big goal… To climb Mount Fuji!

Everyone: Ooh…

Sho: It’s certainly big.

Jun: When I went to Yakushima and climbed some mountains, I thought mountain climbing would be nice.

Nino: What was the best thing about it?

Jun: I wonder what it is… I guess it’s the feeling of not thinking about anything and just climbing. And I would like to climb Kilimanjaro too.

[laughter from the staff]

Sho: Aren’t you getting ahead of yourself?

Jun: Now recruiting for people to go together with me!

Ogura: If you say that you’re going to receive a lot of applications.

Jun: No no, I meant only the staff. And for my small goal, I hope to be a guest on Shukudai-kun!

Sho: Oh! This is interesting!

Jun: I mean, I’m always sitting around with you guys on the set right? So I hope to sit right in the middle and have everyone try to dig out stories about me.

Nino: What was THAT about?!

Sho: But you know, we just have to change our sitting positions and you would have accomplished your goal already.

 

Ogura: Alright, Nino.

Nino: Okay… My big goal is this! Music!

Ogura: But you’re already doing it as a job!

Nino: I do, but I hope to get stuck in music.

Ogura: You mean, like to play an instrument?

Nino: Well, it has been a longtime dream of mine, but I hope to create a game.

Sho: What do you mean?

Nino: I want to create the music for a game.

Ogura: If in the situation where Nino does create game music, the copyrights would go to Johnny’s Entertainment, right?

Nino: That is true.

Sho: But at that time his payout would probably be cut by 80%.

[Nino has an incredulous expression on his face.]

Jun: They’ll advertise for your game with all they’ve got.

Nino: What will become of me then? Perhaps I should rewrite this. And my small goal is… to pay more attention to my health!! There’s such a thing as eating habits right?

Ogura: Ah, Nino has a lot of likes and dislikes, yes?

Nino: I’m quite picky about what I eat.

Sho: Why don’t you try bringing some onigiri on to set?

Nino: Like brown rice?

Jun: Nino could bring onigiri each time the five of us film our regular shows.

Nino: Doesn’t that just make me a dogsbody? L

 

Sho: Okay, my big goal for this year is… to get a hobby!

Ogura: That’s so sad! You don’t have one?

Sho: I don’t really have a hobby…

Nino: Isn’t there something that you get fired up to do?

Sho: I do write music or create films when I have the time, but I’m not referring to things like that. I’m talking about stuff like, spending half a day fishing and the like.

Ogura: You wanna join my baseball team?

Sho: But you guys are pretty good right?

Ogura: It’s a strong team.

Sho: And [will you admit] people who can’t catch a baseball?

Ogura: That, that would be rather troublesome…

Sho: Here comes the small goal…  I sincerely hope that I can do this. I hope to change my lifestyle to a diurnal one.

Jun: Diurnal?

Sho: I want to do something at 7 or 8 in the morning…

Ohno: It has got to be your hobby, then.

Nino: Breakfast making… How about cooking?

Jun: Why don’t you try cooking?

Ogura: If you lived with me for one month you’d definitely turn diurnal.

Sho: That’s too early!

Ogura: 2am or 3am in the morning…

Sho: That’s really diurnal.

Ogura: It is.

Nino: You could probably directly receive the morning paper!

 

Sho: Ogura-san, if you would, please.
Ogura: Tada! To date a young woman in her twenties.

Sho: The handwriting is so skillful that it’s scary.

Jun: Is there someone you have in mind already?

Ogura: Well, there is someone I can share saliva with.

Nino: Come on, it’s the New Year!

Ogura: And my small goal is… to be the MC of a music program. The MC thing is easier, I think.

Sho: Shouldn’t your goals be reversed?

Ogura: The dating bit is more important!

 

Nino: Riida, your turn!

Ogura: Riida’s goals would probably only be filled with the names of fish right?

Ohno: Nah, it’s a tad bit different this time round.

Ogura: It’s different?

Sho: And the big goal is…

[Ohno reveals his placard, which writes, “Hikikomoru.” This literally translates to shutting himself in his room/house. I find it ironic since Japan does have a social phenomenon called hikikomori, where people shut themselves at home, as a form of acute social withdrawal.]

 

Ogura: Shut yourself at home?! Aren’t you doing that already?

Nino: He’s always at home.

Aiba: You want to shut yourself at home?

Sho: That’s a new way of thinking.

Ohno: More than now, actually.

Ogura: So you’re going to stop fishing?

Nino: So you’re going to stop fishing? Please declare it now.

Ohno: No, I’m not quitting fishing! I’ll work to keep it under control, and return back to drawing and stuff.

Sho: Ah, I see.

Jun: Is your creative energy increasing?

Ohno: I have two pieces that I’m working on now, and I would like to finish it. And that automatically leads to my small goal, which is skin whitening.

[Everyone bursts into laughter.]

I think we can both thank Yoshimoto Nara and the JE bosses for Ohno's goals. Yoshimoto Nara for inspiring him to do more art (notice that he Ohno has started to talk more about doing art after the News Zero meeting with Nara), and the JE officials for scolding him for his crispy burnt skin. Yay for art and the return of Ohno baby skin!

Is Sho's mentioning of fishing as a hobby a hint for Ohno to occasionally take him along during his fishing trips? Matsujun's reason for climbing mountains is similar to Ohno's reason for fishing, not thinking about anything while doing the hobby.

I do hope everyone gets their goals. But isn't Ogu-san's big goal kinda creepy in a cradle-snatching way?
