This is a pretty old article so I can’t remember whether it’s been done before… The members talk about virtually anything under the sun: with topics ranging from their honeymoon destinations and what they would do if they were a girl for a day.

Q1: You’re on your first date with your girlfriend. (1) What would you wear (2) What would you like her to wear?

Jun: Nothing in particular. I’ve been rather lethargic lately, so we should both wear something that doesn’t take too much out of us.

Ohno: Something rough and casual. I’d wear a T-shirt, and I think it’s nice for her to be in pants rather than a skirt.

Sho: I’d dress like I normally do. For her, rather than fixating on her dressing, I think it’d be nice if she paid attention to her hair and nails.

Aiba: Both of us would be wearing something casual. It’s okay as long as it’s something befitting of the time, place and occasion.

Nino: I’d wear something that would fit any situation. I’d be happy with anything that she wears if I felt that she put effort into it!

Q2: Tell us about the loving words which (1) you want to be told by a girl (2) you’d want to say to a girl.

Jun: For the both of us, it would be something along the lines of complimenting the gap between our image and actual self. For example, something like, “You’re surprisingly OO.”

Ohno: (1) “I’m so glad we were able to fish a lot today!” (2) “You’ve already fallen (in love with me)!” (laughs)

Sho: (1) “When are you going to bed?” (2) “When I’m together with you, time just seems to slip us by.”

Aiba: (1) She’d say “Wow!” and think that I’m great. (2) “Is it alright if I can accompany you?”

Nino: (1) I’d be happy if she said, “That’s amazing.” (2) I’m keeping this a secret. Cos if I didn’t, I won’t be able to use it when the time comes, yeah? (laughs)

Q3: What’s your ideal proposal?

Jun: After I’ve given her a surprise and made her feel really moved, I’ll go in with the direct words!

Ohno: “Please marry me!” You don’t need anything else other than that, right? (laughs)

Sho: I’d pass her the marriage certificate and say, “Please sign your name here!” (laughs)

[Translator’s note: Sho-fail! in action here, once again…]

Aiba: In a totally natural setting, I’d ask, “Shall we get married?”

Nino: Without any hesitation or nerves. I’m sealing the words I’ll use until the actual day itself. (grins)

Q4: Tell us about your plan for your anniversary date!

Jun: A day at the theme park. It’ll start with me going to fetch her!

Ohno: A handmade item or accessory as a present.

Sho: A surprise dessert which I’ll reserve at a restaurant!

Aiba: I’d charter a helicopter! Although I’d ask a friend for an opinion first. (laughs)

Nino: We’d visit the memorable places we shared, like the place where we met and stuff!

Q5: What’s your weakness when it comes to relationships?

Jun: I would prioritise my friends first.

Ohno: It would disrupt my pace of life, which I’m not good at handling.

Sho: I guess my weakness is that I don’t really have a strength! (bitter laugh)

Aiba: I get too excited about it and tire myself out…

Nino: Sorry to say this but… nothing! (grins)

Q6: Which part of a girl’s body do your eyes travel to unknowingly?

Jun: Her butt I guess (laughs) The firm type is great!

Ohno: Everything. (laughs) If she gives off a natural vibe, it’s just <[thumbs up.]

Sho: Her upper arm. Unlike guys, the slender and soft feeling strikes a chord in me.

Aiba: Her waist. In the summer, when I see a girl in her swimsuit, I can’t help but... (laughs)

Nino: Beautiful hands. It’s okay if she doesn’t apply any nail polish.

Q7: What’s your ideal (1) wedding ceremony (2) honeymoon?

Jun: I’ll hold my wedding at Hawaii and have my honeymoon there. I’ll get the other members to sing a medley for us, I guess? (laughs)

Ohno: We’d talk over it together and decide on the style that fits us best. If we have any differing opinions, I’ll give in.

Sho: (1) We’d have the full course, starting with the ceremony, then an afterparty, followed by another afterparty. (2) Isn’t it great if we could honeymoon at a place which is filled with our memories?

Aiba: I look forward to both a quiet ceremony and a grand one! (2) I guess it’d be ideal if we could just relax in a tropical country.

Nino: I’d go along with what she says, 100%. I’ll try to accommodate her every wish!

Q8: Which of the following requests from your girlfriend are you okay with? (1) Couple clothing (2) Saying “I love you.” (3) Ride on a merry go round.

Jun: (A) is kinda embarrassing. (laughs) I’ll work hard on B and C!

Ohno: If she asked I’d do all three. Although I’m slightly resistant to the idea in (A).

Sho: (A) feels kind of vague. (B) sounds like it’ll come out in a monotone. (laughs) (C) is okay!

Aiba: All three are good! I’ll probably have fun as I’m doing them! (laughs)

Nino: No problem at all. If it’s what she wants I’ll do it!

Q9: What kind of text messages from girls would make you feel happy when you receive them?

Jun: It’d tug at my heartstrings if a girl who normally doesn’t watch TV texts me her thoughts after watching my program.

Ohno: If I receive a text message saying, “I was watching!” after appearing on a live broadcast, I’d think, “Alright!” (laughs)

Sho: I’m weak against words that remind me to take care of my body, you know, stuff like “Don’t catch a cold, okay?”

Aiba: A text message with emoticons, like smiley faces or heart shapes.

Nino: A text message with a really high tension. I mean you only get those from girls right?

Q10: Tell us one difference between “love [Japanese: ai]” and “passion [Japanese: koi]”! [Both translated as “love” in Japanese.]

Jun: “Passion” is a state of the heart. “Love” is something that can’t really take outward form, I guess.

Ohno: “Passion” sounds kind of cute. “Love” is something deeper.

Sho: The difference between the two lies in whether we can accept the flaws of our partners or not.

Aiba: Ehh~~ I don’t know! I wanna be able to tell the difference! (troubled)

Nino: You spell them differently! (immediate answer) The other difference is whether you apply to only yourself or the two of you.

Q11: What are some of the things that you remember most when you visit locales and provinces?

Jun: I remember all the food that I ate. From now on I would also like to visit the places of interest.

Ohno: I remember fishing in Tsushima, Nagasaki. The local people were really warm~

Sho: An outdoor music event in Kouchi. The reggae felt super good.

Aiba: All the scenery. If you’re talking about food, then it would have to be the horse sashimi in Kumamoto and the Pollack roe from Fukuoka.

Nino: Well, this is overseas, but I can’t forget the BBQ from Korea and the Xiao Long Bao in Taiwan!

Q12: What would you do if you were a girl for a day?

Jun: I’d wear a bikini and stand in front of the mirror in my house!

Ohno: Fall in love! I’m wondering what it’d be like to fall for a guy. (laughs)

Sho: I’d want to try wearing a long sleeved kimono. That’s really tough to wear, right?

Aiba: Do stuff that guys wouldn’t be able to do. Like, experiencing how painful it is to give birth and stuff.

Nino: Well, I might touch my breast. Everyone would definitely do it, right~?!

Q13: Tell us about a dream which you had recently or a recurring dream.

Jun: There’s one recurring dream I’ve had where I was attacked by bugs, which opened up holes in my body.

Ohno: I was seized by a tsunami. However, since I was saved, it ended happily.

Sho: One recurring dream of mine was when I was in a flowing pool and kept swirling about in it. It was really scary!

Aiba: Right before a concert, I often dream that I’m enjoying the actual show.

Nino: I probably have more nightmares. But I can control the flow of the dream.

Q14: What was one thing that you managed to get your hands on lately which made you happy?

Jun: A panama hat! It’s smells of summer and I was really satisfied.

Ohno: This goes quite a while back… A fishing rod.

Sho: A black-coloured electric fan. It’s really pleasant in the summer~

Aiba: A peach. I took a big, satisfying bite out of that!

Nino: A game I received on my birthday!

Q15: What’s your favourite place in your own house?

Jun: My desk.  That’s the place where I go to do  all my thinking.

Ohno: On top of my bed. I enjoy sitting there watching my fishing programs.

Sho: It has got to be the living room area. That’s where the whole family comes together.

Aiba: The dining room table. Somehow I’m able to regain my footing whenever I sit there.

Nino: In front of the TV. It’s the place of bliss where I get to play my games and enjoy my music.

Q16: What would you do if you won 1 billion yen in the lottery?

Jun: I’ll probably only have to use half of that amount of money. But I’d like a spacious piece of land!

Ohno: I don’t really have a use for money. I’ll pass it all to my parents! (laughs)

Sho: I’d buy a large mansion that’s close to the sea and plenty of greenery and hold barbeques there.

Aiba: I’d rent out a theme park for the day and go there with all my friends!

Nino: I’d save the entire sum of money. I like the business of saving money. J

Q17: If you had to liken yourself to a home appliance, what would you be?

Jun: A vacuum cleaner! In any case I’d be sucking up everything and anything. Inhaling and inhaling~ (laughs)

Ohno: Hmmm… Is there any appliance which is bulky and particularly Japanese? (confused)

Sho: (following Matsumoto-kun’s answer) A hotplate. Sizzling and sizzling~ (laughs)

Aiba: A personal computer. You just have to do a search and you’ll find your answer… Well at least that’s how I’d like to be. (laughs)

Nino: The newest TV prototype. (Delightedly) I mean, those look pretty, right?

Q18: What’s the one thing that makes you go, “Argh! I can take anything but THIS!”

Jun: The sound of beating wings that insects make near my ear. It’s absolutely disgusting.

Ohno: Sharks, bears, lions. They seem like they’d eat me.

Sho: Every year, I get more and more afraid of heights…

Aiba: Lizards, I guess. But as a child, I was completely fine with them!

Nino: Wasps or bees. It hurts when I get stung. If I see any I run away immediately!

Q19: What would you do if you had a month off to yourself?

Jun: 5 days of preparation à 20 day tour in Europe à 5 days to recover from the trip

Ohno: To go to the tropics, or to shut myself up at home. The most important thing is to relax!

Sho: To go to a real safari in Africa, and to attend a reggae in South America!

Aiba: I would like to try out different part time jobs! Something like cooking yakisoba at a seaside inn.

Nino: I would probably laze around at home whilst saying to myself, “I wanna go to work~”

Q20: Who are the people whom you respect?

Jun: My friends. Even though we come from different walks of life, I receive positive stimulation from them.

Ohno: I think anyone would respect “a person who stays true to his ideals.”

Sho: “A person who does not forget his dreams even when he has grown up.” If I ever meet someone like that I’m incredibly moved.

Aiba: Of course, that would have to be Arashi! That includes everyone!

Nino: Regardless of age and gender, everyone in my life whom I’ve met so far!
