A random assortment of facts on the members. They offer their views on their favourite cakes, which animals they would like to be reborn as and what’s on their cellphone display at the moment.

 

 

Q1: If you could be an animal, which one would you be?

 

Jun: Hmm, this is difficult… A dolphin. I think that their characteristic manner of communication is great.

 

Ohno: Hmmm… A sloth. I mean, I only have to laze around all day, right? However, I would like to put on a sharp face every once in a while. When humans come to look at me, I could tell them, “Hey, I’m capable of putting on such a [sharp-looking] face too!”

 

Sho: Ehh~~ I like being a human! (overwrought) Hmm, I guess I’d have to go with being a cheetah. I wonder how fast it can run? I don’t really have a desire to become a bird and fly in the sky… (laughs) [Translator’s note: I get the fear of heights, Sho-chan.] And, even if I were to say a fish, that wouldn’t be much, right? I mean, I can’t really tell when a fish is happy. But with a cheetah, I could go, “Damn, I’m fast! Seeya later!” Something like that?

 

Aiba: Dolphins give off this vibe that they can sense what you’re feeling. I would like to know how they are able to do it, so I guess I would want to be a dolphin.

 

Nino: A whale, I guess. It is the biggest mammal on earth after all. That would be cool, right?

 

Q2: What’s your favourite cake?

 

Jun: I like cheesecakes and chocolate cakes better. I do like shortcakes as well, but a shortcake is a shortcake, right? I mean for chocolate cakes, you could have something like a chocolate gateau, there’s variation to chocolate cakes, isn’t it? Even with cheesecakes, you have rare cheese, and you can vary how much you want it baked, right? I like that much better.

 

Ohno: Chocolate. I had loads of it last year. When we had the privilege of celebrating our 10^th year anniversary, I ate lots of cake.

 

Sho: Is tiramisu considered a cake? Well, I’ll go with tiramisu but… When I eat it I definitely get choked. You know, the powdery part. When I eat [tiramisu] I choke on it 100%. But I like it! (laughs)

 

Aiba: A simple cake, something along the lines of a shortcake. And cheesecakes. I’ve liked rare cheesecakes ever since I was a little kid.

 

Nino: Birthday cakes, I guess.

 

 

Q3: What’s on the standby display on your phone right now?

 

Jun: Right now on my standby display are the time zones of various countries. Every now and then, I do wonder, “Ahh, so it’s this time now in New York. And it’s this time in London.” Well it’s nothing in particular… I just think about it, that’s all. (laughs)

 

Ohno: Hiroshi who’s dressed up as Kaibutsu-kun. I took that photo. That fella is so cute!

 

Sho: Right now, it’s a picture of the opening ceremony of the Vancouver Olympics. Right before that was one of Kokuritsu stadium. And the one before that was a picture of the Beijing Olympics. And of course, a calendar will be on display in a small corner of the screen.

 

Aiba: A clock. Displaying the time in London and Japan. It was kept that way since I bought the phone, so there’s no significance with displaying the time in London.

 

Nino: Demokin. Because I got various versions of Demokin cell phone photos from Ohno-san.

 

 

Q4: Are you a bread or rice person in the mornings?

 

Jun: Rice. And something soupy to go along with it.

 

Ohno: Recently I’ve been a bread person. What’s it, erm… [gestures with his hands] It’s a bread that’s about this size, and has chocolate filling right in the middle of it. Chocolat… or not, I guess. (laughs) I forget! I was eating that every day.

 

Sho: You know, recently I’ve been searching for cafés near my place. I’ll order an ice coffee and munch on a hot sandwich. So… I’m a sandwich person.

 

Aiba: I had bread today. It differs from day to day. But if you asked me which meal was ideal, it would be rice. Rice, miso soup and natto somehow has a calming effect. It has a warm feeling to it. I could toast my bread as well, but it’s more of the feelings attached to the food rather than the actual temperature of the food.

 

Nino: If I had to choose, it would be bread, I guess.

 

Q5: How long were you in the ofuro yesterday?

 

Jun: Recently I’ve been taking showers rather often. Yesterday I was in the bath for 20 minutes.

 

Ohno: I didn’t get into the bath yesterday. I did today! (laughs) I took about 10 minutes in the shower, I guess.

 

Sho: I definitely hop into a bathtub during a bath. Yesterday I guess I was [in the bath] for about 20 minutes.

 

Aiba: I was in the bath for about 15 minutes while watching TV. Personally [15 minutes] is rather long for me. However, when I have my manga with me in the bath I usually take an even longer time. I am in the bath all the way until I finish reading one manga book. That’s my personal principle, though. (laughs)

 

Nino: Yesterday I took 5 minutes in the shower.

Q6: What colour are your futon covers?

 

Jun: The colour? White and blue. The futon cover is white and blue, and the bedsheets are blue.

 

Ohno: Brown. But I rarely ever sleep in my futon. I sleep on the sofa. (laughs) I get a backache when I sleep on a futon. It’s cold in winter, so I give it my best shot at sleeping in the futon, though. (laughs) From August till October it’s been the sofa all the way. And the colour of the sofa? It’s white.

 

Sho: Navy blue. And so are my pillow cases. The bedsheets are ivory.

 

Aiba: White or beige. I don’t really have any dark colours. I used to in the past, but I disliked having to sleep on dark colours.

 

Nino: White, I think? I’m guessing that it’s white? With some nuances in it.
