The first episode is a whole bunch of awesomeness, so I’ve decided to post my own review coupled comments on my favorite scenes with translations.

The caps were taken from here. (http://erotopia37564.livejournal.com/40673.html)

Scene 1: How Lucifer fell from grace

The director captured the opening tone of the movie brilliantly. One is reminded of the anime Monster, where a child’s story was used as a parallel to the plot of the drama. The narrator of the story, Shiori, ultimately plays an important role in the progression of the plot.

Narration:

“Today we’ll be telling the tragic story of an angel. “

“Isn’t that a demon? That’s right, it’s a demon!”

“Well, how about this? “

“Pretty~!!”

“Lucifer was an angel who helped the people, and was loved by God. But one day, he incurred God’s wrath and fell from heaven. “

Cut to scene where Ohno gently lays a bouquet of flowers at the site of his brother’s death. The drama soundtrack is simply epic here, the orchestra provided the right tone for the scene.

Ohno’s look is one stricken with grief and anger.

“Lucifer, which had nowhere to go, changed his name to Satan and wandered about in hell.”

Ohno stands up suddenly, with resolution drawn across his face.

“Hideo, watch and see.”

“It was there that he became the Devil [Maou].”

Heee heee! I bet you didn't know how far back I went ... Maou has got to be my favouritest (not a real word I know) of all time! I don't normally write fic for drama, but I did for Maou. I loved it so much and if ever my love for Ohno had been in doubt ... this sealed my fate/doom/whatever completely.

This drama made me re-read Dante, seek out both Marlowe's and Goethe's Faust, and re- read them too.

I loved the soundtrack from it, I also loved how a lot of it felt very Shakespearen in feel as regards to his tragedies. (The final scene was so Romeo and Juliet. The rest had the feel of Lear/Macbeth/Hamlet)

It was so much squee and pushed all my literary geek buttoms. I felt like I died and went to drama heaven. Plus Ohno shower scene! Heheh.

I'm really honored that you're taking the time and effort to comment on these old entries! I really am.

Amongst some of the Arashi dramas which my mother watched, she likes Ohno's acting the most. It's too bad that she didn't follow Kagiheya because she couldn't keep up with the tricks that they used.

I read bits of Faust because I was fascinated with the quotes and references used in Maou, and although it wasn't an exact parallel, it still lent an eerie air to the drama.

Yeah I know what you mean ... I talked my very English mother-in-law to watching this with me when she was over that year!

And she really enjoyed it!!!

Yamada Tarou is an easy sell because it's so family oriented. No,I don't feel guilty at all for luring in the family with that drama!!!

Also 'Step and Go' - have you ever seen a white man in a sarong sing that! I tell you I laughed so hard at hubby, I ended up with a stitch in my side!

Arashi - they're just so wonderful really! ^__^

I guess the Faustus and the Dante reference lent an eerie air to the drama. But damn the Shakespeare-phile in me just saw all sorts of references and allusions to the plays.

Something like you think how exacting Naruse was with his revenge ... it was more like Shylock wanting his pound of flesh in Merchant of Venice.

My poor deluded brain even saw parts from the more comedic of plays with the runaround that Naruse gave the police was very much like the confusions that ensue in Midsummer's Night's Dream.

And the part where Naoto's wife was having an affair and it was all going haywire ... how could my brain not see Othello ... because (racism aside) the love, jealousy, betrayal parts where all there ... ..

But of course ... they COULD have been friends and at the end Star crossed lovers it would seem ... that ending ... just UNF!!!

Like I said my brain went to drama heaven. No drama . in fact no other tv- show ever since has even come close to pushing all my feels and buttons like Maou did.

Just OMG I love it so much!

... of course now I kind of want to re-watch it hehehehe!

LOL! I love how you inducted your mother-in-law into J-drama. Maou is a tragic cautionary tale, I think.

Your hubby sang to Step and Go!? ROFL! I'm glad you have family entertainment right there in your living room!

I wonder if the scriptwriters and directors were into Shakespeare as much as you are. XD
