Orista August 2010
Aug. 10th, 2010 12:28 pmThis is probably my favorite interview so far this year.
Ask ARASHI anything! Questions from Arashi fans all over Japan pour in as they’re presented in this month’s Orista.
SAKURAI SHO
15 year old from Niigata: Sho-kun is known by many people for being a news caster. Is there anything which you must do before a live broadcast?
Right now I would have to say that I can’t help but watch “Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku”! (laughs) I happen to be on standby from 9pm to 10pm, so I watch Matsujun as I wait for the show to commence.
18 year old from Toyama: Is there a Sho-style strategy when it comes to handling tough situations?
You have no choice but to face it head on, I think. If you were to ask me what a tough situation was, I would have to say that for myself, it’s mostly environments where I had no choice but to do [something], so I just had to go ahead and do it. Even if it turned out to be a hopeless case, tough situations form experiences from which we grow and learn. So I think it’s really better to have gone through tough times than to not have any at all.
19 year old from Shizuoka: You’ve got an upcoming movie and an Election Special Live Broadcast. I’m sure you’re pretty busy, but have you read the original novel [for the movie]?
It was easy to hit the spot about a local medical practice, but there is a conscientious effort to render the human drama [in the show]. I liked how the main character’s wife, patients and friends in the lodging house were portrayed.
So you’re cranking in for the movie “Kamisama no Karute” (God’s Clinical Records) where you play a couple with Miyazaki Aoi in September, right?
That’s right. Therefore I’m completely not in the movie mode right now. I’ve been rehearsing for [Arashi] concerts as well, but it seems like I will be thinking of the movie from now on.
17 year old from Kanagawa: It seems like you’ve shown us various styles of fashion in Mannequin Five, but what style of fashion do you normally wear?
I used to adopt a B-Boy* style in my teens, but now I’m completely normal. Today I wore a shirt with army pants, and yesterday I had on a short-sleeved shirt with chino pants. I don’t know if I have a style~ I’ll go with a style that feels good. (laughs)
*B-boy is a term referring to break dancers, or people who adopt the hip-hop style.
25 year old from Fukuoka: If you became a father, where would you take your kids during the summer vacation?
The sea! The mountains! The rivers! When I was a child, my parents took me to various places. Therefore, when I become a parent, I too would like to bring my children to various destinations. I would like to do for my child what my parents had done for me.
Were there any particular memories you had?
I had entered Johnnys Entertainment when I was in my second year in middle school, so I only had about slightly less than 14 years of experience [travelling]. I really looked forward to going to the sea at Izu every year. The streets were packed, so I slipped out of the house in the middle of the night and walked towards the [east] where the sun would rise. I would be playing in the sea while my parents took a short nap in the car. Although I didn’t do anything in particular… it was fun! Now that I’m an adult, I would think that people would like to laze around the house during their days off. So for my parents to have taken me somewhere on their day off was something which made me really happy.
19 year old from Gunma: Any words or things which are popular among the 5 members right now?
[The phrase], “Argh, this is numbing~!” is popular right now, yes?
You mentioned it on Music Station the other day, but when did it start?
I’m guessing that it was during the recording of the 0th episode of Arashi ni Shiyagare? During that period, no matter how much we did or what we did, the work just didn’t end! So either Matsujun or Aiba-kun said, “This is numbing~” It was popular for a pretty long while.
13 year old from Aichi: What would you want to do if you had the chance to live your life all over again?
I don’t really have anything which I would like to change. Even if I got the chance to live my life over again, I probably would have joined JE in my second year in middle school, and do the exact same things, I think.
13 year old from Shizuoka: Is there a particular Aniki guest which you’d like to meet on Arashi ni Shiyagare? What would you like him to teach you?
Someday, I would like the main caster from NEWS ZERO, Murao-san to come on the show. I do eat with him every Monday after our staff meetings in the evenings, but I only know them as they’re sitting in the caster’s seat, and nowhere else. For example, Murao-san was in the skiing club when he was a student. Although we can’t ski in the studio. (laughs) I think that it would be nice to see a side of him that I don’t normally see.

Date: 2010-08-10 06:18 am (UTC)Hopefully one of these days Arashi could get an outdoor location shooting. Maybe for Arashi ni Shiyagare, they could be taught on how to plan a vacation with their family/partner/friends/senpais and etc. I want to see how they fare when they take a vacation together - they can so self-filming that Jun was taught in an earlier episode. ^^
Anyway, thanks for translating as always. ^^
