Can you believe that the February issues are already out on the magazine stands?
Well, obviously I can’t. Anyway, here’s the February issue of Non-No, complete with Leader’s fringe. I love the British-style clothes.
Non-No’s Custom! Arashi’s Q & A!
Our popular article, in which we take a look at the five members’ various traits. We start with their views on relationships and values!
Q: Tell us about a girl’s winter wear that made your heart skip a beat recently.
Aiba: Uniform. Eh, isn’t this answer kinda dangerous!? (laughs)
Jun: The ultimate “birthday suit” might be pretty good. (grins)
Nino: Isn’t it the skirt? Guys don’t get to wear it, after all.
Ohno: If I see some bare skin, I would think, “She’s trying her best!”
Sho: This is tough~ (sweats) Fur would probably catch my eye.
Q: What is a girl’s action that has caught your attention recently?
Aiba: When I see a girl trying her best at something, I would think that it’s cute.
Jun: A girl who works hard for her own sake and not for the sake of others is wonderful.
Nino: I have no idea! I haven’t been looking at girls recently.*
Ohno: I’m interested in girls who do not act together in a group but individually.**
Sho: I find it impossible to understand how they can chit chat endlessly without drinking!
Translator’s comments:
*Nino, you’re such a liar.
** Sounds like someone we all know, huh? Oh-chan?
Q: Please tell us about your best date plan for winter!
Aiba: I like new attractions, so I would rabu-rabu* in the vicinity of the Sky Tree.
Jun: We’d go shopping together, and then make some hotpot. It’s nice to stew stuff.
Nino: I’d grant her wishes in terms of the place and date plan <3
Ohno: We’d go to the art museums so that it doesn’t get cold. How about some hotpot for dinner?
Sho: We’d go skiing. If she’s a beginner I would teach her!
Translator’s note: Rabu-rabu, or love-love, can be interpreted as a couple cozying up with each other, innuendoes aside.
Q: What is the difference between a “girl” and a “woman”?
Aiba: A girl would miss the last train, but a woman would return by the last train…?
Jun: If she accumulates experiences and takes on responsibilities, wouldn’t that make her an adult?
Nino: It’s got nothing to do with age, I feel that a person who carries herself with confidence is an adult.
Ohno: In my mind, a woman is someone who is independent, and has her own career and lifestyle.
Sho: None! All females will always be a “girl” at heart, right?
Q: Tell us about a recent moment where you felt (1) Man, I’m cool! (2) Man, I suck!
Aiba: None for both, actually. Recently I’ve been pretty normal. (laughs)
Jun: I’m always cool! Ah, well I did feel both ways during my stage play.
Nino: For (1), it’s when I’m figuring out the wiring for the TV. For (2)… well, nothing actually!
Ohno: For (1), it’s when I’m concentrating on drawing. Other than that I’m always (2).
Sho: For (1), it’s when I’m able to memorize long lines from my script. For (2), it was when I splendidly dropped my glass.
Q: Make a prediction! These types of men and women will be popular in 2012!
Aiba: Diurnal women and men.* It seems like healthy dates would be on the rise. (laughs)
Jun: Without being fixated on stereotypes, “ordinary” men and women who pursue what they like.
Nino: Well, after the Girl in the Woods**, it would be the Girl in the Forest! For guys, it would be beautiful men, right?
Ohno: It would be nice if Fishing Girls were on the rise. For guys too, it would be Fishing Boys!
Sho: Bento Women and Men. By all means, please try the frozen foods featured in the CM.
Translator’s note:
*Diurnal as opposed to nocturnal.
** The Girl in the Woods (Mori Gaaru), refers to a style of dressing and living which seems exude a languid air, as if one were really in the woods. However, it does not refer to a style of dress that is actually suited for trekking or physical activities in the woods. Nino makes a pun here to say that after the trend of the Girl in the Woods, it would follow that the Girl in the Forest would be popular.
Q: What is one thing you’ve indulged in lately?
Aiba: At one shot, I bought the whole series of One Piece, from the first volume right up to the latest volume!
Jun: Within an hour, I bought 3 outer pieces, 2 shirts and 2 pairs of glasses.
Nino: I’m not indulging but I’m pretty content with what I have. I guess it’s about living a good life.
Ohno: I kept buying the art tools which I liked until the total crossed over 10,000 yen. I was shocked!
Sho: Buying loads of yoghurt. I’ve been eating it for breakfast everyday so I’m stocking up on them.
Q: What is one catchphrase that is popular with (1) you or (2) Arashi right now?
Aiba: For (1), it would be Ara-chan, based on Arakawa. It kind of makes you want to say the name, right?
Jun: For (1), it would be the line from my stage play, “Let me shine!” (lit: Kagayaka sasetekure) It’s tough to say it, isn’t it? (laughs)
Nino: For (2), it would be “Agepoyo~” I still have no idea how it should be used.
Ohno: For (1), it would be “Dunno*”. When I talk to my friends from Kansai, I’ve learnt to imitate them.
Sho: “Konya-nyachiwa**” is my choice for (1), but it hasn’t sunk in at all. (bitter smile)
Translator’s note:
Agepoyo refers to a slang used when one is in an excited mood.
*The term here refers to “I don’t know” but said in the Kansai dialect.
** I can only guess that this term is a mutation of the greeting, “Konnichiwa”, or “Good afternoon” in Japanese.
Q: What is one “promise” that you have made lately?
Aiba: I told my friends, “Let’s go to Fuji-Q Highlands! I want to make this happen!
Jun: To meet up with friends the day after tomorrow. Not for a meal, but for tea.
Nino: I promised to call if I could make it for dinner [with friends].
Ohno: I can’t remember. I’m quite fickle-minded so I don’t really make promises.
Sho: I have an appointment to go out for dinner with a friend today. It’s been a long time since we’ve met so I’m looking forward to it!
Q: What is one encounter that has made you happy lately?
Aiba: A hat of Goomba, which appears in Mario. Of course I gave it to Nino as a present!
Jun: A fluffy grey sweater. It appeared often during my stage play.
Nino: Without going out, I met many cute child actors through television. (laughs)
Ohno: My black art tools. It’s not entirely black, the highlight is that the color is thin and subtle.
Sho: CDs. I bought the ones which I liked when I was out window shopping.
Q: What is your individual, tiny goal for 2012?
Aiba: To eat well and sleep well. It’s pretty big actually, isn’t it?
Jun: To clean my room. I want to do a thorough spring clean and feel refreshed.
Nino: To welcome 2013! To enjoy every single day.
Ohno: To watch more television, I guess. At home and while I’m on the go.
Sho: To properly practise on the piano, and to increase the number of pieces which I can play!

I don't have an idea of the "birthday suit" Jun talked about. When I googled it, it means "Nakedness; an exposure of a human's natural anatomy without clothing" O.O I was like woaaah, Jun-kun! that's why you probably grinned after saying it LOL!

Date: 2011-12-26 08:11 pm (UTC)Konyanyachiwa.... I'm not quite sure, but a similar version was what Kero-chan in Cardcaptor Sakura would say. He was from Osaka, so I remember once reading on a website that it was how you say Konnichiwa in an Osaka dialect. But I never encountered it since.
