I was so happy that this drama series seemed to be developing its characters nicely, I decided to write a few drabbles about it. This is the first drabble in what might be a series of fics. C&C are very welcome, considering that I haven't written in a long while.

Prologue: Pros and Cons

Synopsis: Serizawa hires a new associate.

Serizawa Gou wearily looked at the pile of resumes which lay on the table before him. Despite his inherent disdain for sifting through potential associates, it was a necessary evil given the firm’s current shortage of lawyers experienced in criminal law. He perfunctorily glanced through a few resumes, then handed a list of names for his secretary to call in for an interview.

The young man who sat across Serizawa looked calm and serene as they exchanged name cards and initial pleasantries.

“I’ve had the liberty of looking through your previous cases, you have an impressive track record in criminal defense.” Serizawa began.

The young lawyer replied with a smile that was almost too sweet. “I haven’t done anything special, I merely highlighted arguments which the prosecution had neglected to consider.”

“That being said, your experience in criminal law would be invaluable to our company. Perhaps you might want to consider working for Friedman & Serizawa?”

“I’d be honored to.” The sweet smile widened.

As his newly found employee walked out of his office, Serizawa wondered if hiring Naruse Ryo had been the right thing to do. Sure enough, he was hailed by the mass media as the Angelic Lawyer. Serizawa questioned if there was one hell of a devil hiding behind that smile.
