With Kagiheya, my personal catharsis came in the form of crossover fanfiction; but for the current season of Last Hope, I though it'd be more appropriate to do a character analysis. You'll find commentaries and parts of Dr. Takumi's dialogue here, so don't say I didn't warn you about SPOILERS.

Masuda is a surgeon who broke his arm in a cycling accident and wishes to recover full mobility so that he can once again work at the operating table.
T: It’s a really good experience for a doctor to play the patient for once.
Despite Takumi’s sunny disposition, he’s far from being the goody two shoes everyone would expect. When ophthalmologist Soejima chastises Tachibana and Takumi for taking on a hopeless case, he quotes Nietzsche in an attempt to get them to give up
Another incident which brings Takumi’s morals into question comes from episode 2, where the IBRI team asks the director Naruse to purchase a New Generation Operation Simulation Device. Naruse explains that they’ve exceeded their budget for the current year and can’t afford to purchase any more equipment, the surgical department agrees to share their budget with the IBRI team
Takagi brings up the scandalous fact that the head of neurosurgery was having an affair with a doctor from internal medicine department
To which Takumi exclaims, “How about we use the information about the affair and make the department head cooperate with us?”
Of course, no analysis of Takumi would be complete without mentioning his obsession with sweets. The 3pm ritual has become a highlight of the drama and the sweets even worked their way into the plot

This doctor's reaction was hilarious: "Why on earth is he EATING during our conference!?"

Takagi's reaction was cute too, "Weren't you told not to eat during classes?"
Ogiwara: What are you having today?
Takumi: [exclaims proudly] It's a plum jelly made from ripened Kyushu plums!

Takumi: Hang on... This jelly... has got no plums inside!

Takumi: So?

Takagi: May I punch him? Pretty please?
Takumi's acute observation extends to his colleagues as well.

Takumi: There's something going on between you and this patient, isn't there?
And of course, a medical suspense drama wouldn't be complete without angsty Takumi! Enjoy~

Takumi’s role as a general practitioner (GP) within the Biomedical and Innovation center meant that he often serves as the first line of contact with patients. Nicknamed by his colleagues as the “Private Doc”, Takumi often uses a combination of his keen observation skills and creativity to devise a suitable diagnosis for his patients.
A consultation with Dr. Takumi isn’t likely to be the most comfortable of experiences. Not only do patients have to put up with his outlandish behavior, his somewhat harsh remarks often strike the hearts of his subjects, as evidenced by his conservation with Masuda.
Masuda is a surgeon who broke his arm in a cycling accident and wishes to recover full mobility so that he can once again work at the operating table.
Masuda (M): What’s your specialization?
Takumi (T): I’m a GP.
M: They’re just making up the numbers, huh? There’s a manpower shortage here, that’s why you had to call in the key surgeon from another hospital, isn’t it?
T: It’s a really good experience for a doctor to play the patient for once.
M: What do you mean by that?
T: Won’t you be able to visualize your ideal doctor that way? I used to practise privately, and I think it’s important to hear the stories of the patients…
M: [begins to reflect on his own work as a doctor] Previously, I would just excise tumors like they were things to be cut away. I saved countless lives with my own hands. But despite saving their lives, I might not have assured them of the same quality of life after the operation. I never cared about whether I could have used non-surgical methods to cure my patients.
T: You were a terrible doctor, weren’t you?
M: You say pretty harsh things when smiling, you know?

Date: 2013-01-31 04:35 pm (UTC)(On a random side note: Had a moment of amusement and private joy today when one of the essays I have to review 'forced' me to borrow a very academic book on Japanese pop culture, globalization and transnational law. I knew six years of law school plus postgrad work would eventually lead to this.)

Date: 2013-02-02 04:44 am (UTC)How does Japanese pop culture, globalization and transnational law relate to each other? Was it written by a Japanese or Western author? Sounds interesting! When I was teaching science in middle school, I found it very cathartic to show students all those A no Arashi experiments and we'd predict what would happen. If only I could do that for every job... XD

My friends said this drama is better that Calico and said I should watched it. And considering that your summaries is so tempting, maybe I'll tried download the first episode.
